LEGAL ASSISTANT POSITION – (PART TIME SELF-EMPLOYED ROLE)
Role
Legal assistant to a Barrister and Head of Chambers specialising in Construction and Engineering.
Recruiting people of the highest calibre is fundamental to the continued success of chambers.
Duties
The Legal Assistant’s duties under supervision will involve a wide spectrum of duties, including (this is not an exhaustive list):
- Undertake legal research for ongoing and contemplated proceedings (using online and offline resources), including researching points of law and summarising relevant points of law, assisting with editing/proofing publications.
- Administrative tasks and providing clerical assistance, including filing, typing etc.
- Preparation of draft copies of PowerPoint slides, articles and case summaries for members of chambers.
- Working to tight deadlines.
- Assisting with chambers’ marketing/business development initiatives.
Person Specification includes:
- Must be smart in appearance and well presented.
- Have a law degree (LLB or BA or equivalent) or other undergraduate degree plus law conversion (GDL or equivalent).
- Have completed the Bar Training Course or equivalent.
- Must be proactive, self-starter and extremely hard working.
- Outstanding legal research skills.
- Outstanding communication skills (both oral and written).
- Flexible and self-motivated, with a mindset to succeed in a dynamic, supportive and innovative environment.
- Strong attention to detail with a methodical and logical approach
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (using Word, PowerPoint, spreadsheets).
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Although the work is generally to be carried out during business hours, the candidate must be flexible as some of the work might be carried out during non-office hours during the week (i.e. after 6pm in the evening) and some weekends.
- Keen interest in the work carried out by chambers is essential, coupled with a mindset to succeed.
